Selbst "deutsche" Themen blieben meistens unangetastet.

Even Though My Land Is Burning - Official Trailer

The Gun and the Olive Branch" schreibt.

Trump, AIPAC and the United Nations - Robert Fantina - Since Donald Trump became president of the United States, it may be an exaggeration to say that all hell has broken loose, but, then again, it may not be. The dismal education system in the U.S. is at risk of deteriorating further, under the direction of a wealthy Trump donor who knows nothing about public education. Regulations protecting the environment are already being eliminated. The Republicans are desperately trying to deprive 21 million people of health care, thus fulfilling one of their more bizarre campaign promises. And white supremacy has become fashionable again, strutting its stuff after remaining mainly (although not entirely) closeted for decades.

Officially-sanctioned U.S. racism, however, isn’t limited to the boundaries of the country. No, under Mr. Trump, it is being enshrined in the United Nations. The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, one Nikki Haley, blocked the appointment of former Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad to lead the U.N.’s Libya mission. In her elegant way, she explained the decision at the recent AIPAC (Apartheid Israel Political Affairs Committee) convention: “So when they decided to try and put a Palestinian in one of the highest positions that had ever been given at the UN, we said no and we had him booted out.” She continued: “That doesn’t mean he wasn’t a nice man; that doesn’t mean he wasn’t good to America.” No, the fact that he was Palestinian disqualified him from that role, at least in the eyes of the august ambassador >>>

Palestinian Poet Ahmad Dahbour Dies at 71 - Well known Palestinian poet Ahmad Dahbour passed away on Saturday, at a Ramallah hospital, following deterioration in his health, said the Ministry of Culture in a eulogy statement, according to WAFA. He was 71.

Dahbour was born in Haifa, in 1946, and had lived in Beirut and Syria after the 1948 dispersion of the Palestinian people, following the creation of Israel on Palestinian land. He published a number of poetry books during his life, most published in Beirut, and his poetry was used as nationalist songs by many groups. >>>

Israel Planned Arrest, Deportation of Arafat in 2002 - Asharq Al-Awsat -  Israel planned to arrest former Palestinian President, the late Yasser Arafat, and deport him from the West Bank in 2002, a former high-ranking Israeli official revealed Friday.

Former Israeli Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz said he and then Prime Minister Ariel Sharon had planned the arrest of Arafat under the “Operation of the Defensive Shield,” implemented in 2002. The two also planned to deport the late Palestinian president in a plane to a distant location.

In an interview with the Israeli official Channel 1, Mofaz said the Israeli intelligence had enough information about the Palestinian leader to mislead him and then arrest him while he was sleeping along a limited number of his family members, in addition to his private doctor. They would them take them to a very distant location away from the Israeli borders.

However, the plan was never implemented due to Arafat’s sickness and then his death. Meanwhile, the occupation authorities announced on Friday they would seal off checkpoints and crossing from the occupied West Bank for a week starting Monday in preparation for the Jewish festival of Passover. They said the closure would come into effect at midnight on Monday and continue until midnight on Monday 17 April. >>>

Israel, naked under the microscope in Cork Israel/Palestine - Tom Suarez -  April 7, 2017 - From right to left: John Reynolds, lecturer in international law at the National University of Ireland, Maynooth; Salma Abu-Sitta, civil engineer, and founder and president of Palestine Land Society; Richard Falk, Professor Emeritus, Princeton University, and co-author of the recent UN report about Israeli apartheid; and Prof Oren Ben-Dor, professor of Law and Philosophy at Southampton University. “Phew! If you receive this…” it means the Conference is actually happening — so began the letter that welcomed us at the three-day International Law and the State of Israel: Legitimacy, Exceptionalism and Responsibility conference in Cork, Ireland, so tenuous and troubled was its genesis.

In what Professor Oren Ben-Dor described as a “spectacular failure of the protection of basic rights,” pro-Israeli censors had successfully blocked the conference twice in the UK, and nearly sabotaged it in Cork. The saboteurs did nonetheless succeed in forcing the conference out of its original venue, the University, on Friday and Saturday, and in costing it more money. City Hall ultimately allowed the organizers to rent a conference hall for those two days.

The Conference’s legacy is but part of a broad campaign of pro-Israeli harassment and intimidation in which the British government itself is shamefully complicit. Speakers all the way from internationally esteemed scholars like Richard Falk, to non-academics such as me, continue to have book talks and other events pulled in deference to that foreign pariah state, and slandered with scant means of redress. But, finally, the saboteurs failed: last weekend, the beautiful city of Cork hosted this academic conference that examined the very nature of Israel — its “legitimacy, exceptionalism, and responsibility” — and the sky did not fall. >>>

Israelis must speak up about the injustices here, and the world must listen - Orly Noy - The world is not against us — rather, it is at best indifferent to the oppression of Palestinians, and at worst colludes in it, which is why Israelis must inform decent people about what is happening here.

I was invited to attend a series of meetings organized by French activists that were held this week. The participants were involved in Palestine solidarity work, some of them with longstanding ties to Palestinian communities. Several visit Israel-Palestine on occasion, and assist however they can from afar.

And yes, they are ardent supporters of all forms of non-violent struggle, particularly boycott. Every year, at the general meeting of local councils, they invite speakers from Israel-Palestine in order to broaden their perspectives on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

I generally think that these kinds of meetings are very important. The occupation is not an internal Israeli matter, and the international community is not merely entitled to know what is happening and to intervene — it has to.

But here in France, amid the endless greenery and against your >>>
